Manuel’s documentary film project Digital Transformation: Visions of Nations, Companies, and People (2017, in pre-production) portrays our journey into digital transformation and its opportunities and challenges in conversations with leading scientists, entrepreneurs, corporate decision makers, politicians, artists and others. Interviews for the project take place in Europe, the United States, and Asia. Video interviews and clips from the documentary stream online in short and long versions ahead of the final film, which makes the project an interactive knowledge portal on digital transformation as well.
The Blockchain And Us (2017) explores the following questions: How can blockchain technology benefit the economies of nations? How will it change society? What does this mean for each of us? The film gives a balanced view on the topic far from hype, making it accessible for non-experts.
FinTech Made in Switzerland (2016) is the first documentary film about Swiss FinTech. In 41 interviews with heads of digital banking from major banks, politicians, investors and Swiss FinTech startups in roboadvisory, lending, cryptocurrencies, insurtech, the film gives a glimpse into how a traditional bankers’ nation is coming to terms with technological change and plans to catch up in the digital future.
Manuel has lived in eight countries including Switzerland, the United States, Japan, and Singapore. He has published books and scientific articles on startups, marketplace lending, impact investing, data quality, and Open Data. He is also a senior researcher with focus on the organizational and institutional impact of Open Data, Big Data, and data policy, including mechanisms behind the collection, processing, and publishing of data. Manuel led the project “ASEAN+ Database” at Singapore-ETH Centre, a research center of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH).
Manuel has a degree in economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and holds certifications as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA), and Energy Risk Professional (ERP). He offers strategic advice to a small number of companies regarding innovation and entrepreneurship.
